How Manai works
Hypnosis recording software: record your own script or have it narrated
Hypnosis recording software usually means a way to turn a written script into audio with deliberate pauses, a calm voice, and optional background sound. You can do that with a free audio editor and a microphone, or with Manai, which produces narrated audio from your script using an available narrator or your own personal voice, and also lets you record the whole practice yourself in Audio Studio. The right tool depends on whether you want to perform the recording or produce it, and on how often you expect to change a sentence.
What people actually need from recording software
Strip the search term down and the requirements are short. A script. A voice reading it at an unhurried pace. Silence placed where the listener is meant to act, not just between sentences. Optional sound under the voice, quiet enough that the words stay clear. A file you can replay tonight and next month. And a way to fix one sentence without redoing everything. If you have not written the script yet, start with our guide to writing a self-hypnosis script.
The last requirement decides more than people expect. A hypnosis script changes as you use it: a suggestion turns out to sound like pressure, an image stops fitting, a pause is too short. Software that makes revision cheap gets used; software that makes it expensive produces one recording you stop listening to.
Option 1: a general audio editor
Audacity is free and runs on Mac, Windows, and Linux. GarageBand ships with Apple devices. Both give you complete control: record takes, trim mistakes, insert exact seconds of silence, lay music on a second track, lower it under the voice, and export a file.
The cost is time and performance. You read every line, and a changed sentence means recording it again and splicing it in. If you enjoy that work and want a specific human delivery, this route is hard to beat.
Option 2: a voice memo
The fastest option is the recorder already on your phone. Read the script, leave the pauses you want, stop. There is no editing and no music, and the pauses are whatever you managed in the moment. It is a fine way to test whether a script works aloud before investing in a better version. You can later import that file into Manai and keep it with the practice.
Option 3: Manai produces the recording from your script
Manai treats the script as the center of the practice. Paste the script you have written, or describe the moment and let Manai draft one, then read it and change any line. Ask for silence at specific points; Manai produces pauses as actual silence in the audio rather than a narrator saying “pause here.” Choose an available narrator after listening to a preview. Eligible active paid accounts can also create one personal voice from a sample, so new wording is narrated in a voice made from yours without reading every line aloud.
Original illustrative request:
Here is my eight-minute self-hypnosis script for the hour before I start my tax return. Keep every sentence as written. After each suggestion, leave twenty seconds of silence so I can repeat it. Before the return to alertness, leave forty seconds. Use a clear, unhurried available narrator and no music. Let me read the final script before you create the audio.
When a sentence stops fitting, request the change and produce a new audio version; the earlier recording stays as it was. Add background sound only after you can hear every word without it. Save the version you intend to use and replay it from your Library without creating it again.
What Manai does not do: it is not a waveform editor. You cannot cut a take, move a clip, or mix tracks inside it. For that kind of work, use an editor and import the result.
Option 4: Manai Audio Studio, when your own delivery matters
Audio Studio lets you record the complete practice yourself. Choose Upload or Record, allow microphone access, keep the script in view, and record with pause, resume, playback review, and re-recording before you name and upload the version. If you already recorded in Audacity or GarageBand, import the file instead: the iPhone import screen lists M4A, MP3, WAV, and other formats, with a 100 MB maximum and at least three seconds of readable audio. Audio Studio is a paid-plan feature; see current plans.
A recording captures one performance, including your pauses. If the recording already contains music, adding Manai’s background sound on top can make the words harder to hear, so review that choice separately.
Choose by the sentence you will want to change
If you expect to revise wording often, produce the narration from the script and let revision be cheap. If the exact human delivery is the point, record it. Many people do both: draft and refine with a narrator, then record the final script themselves once it has settled.
Use relaxation audio only where reduced attention is safe, never while driving. A self-made recording is a wellness practice, not treatment; our self-hypnosis guide covers reviewing suggestions before they become a routine.
Frequently asked questions
Can Manai record my own voice reading a hypnosis script?
Yes. Audio Studio’s Record mode captures the whole practice with pause, resume, review, and re-recording, and you name the version before upload. It is a paid-plan feature.
Does Manai add real silence or just say “pause”?
Pauses you request are produced as silence in the audio, placed where you ask for them. Specify the length and position in your request, then listen to confirm the gaps feel right.
Can I import a recording I made in Audacity or GarageBand?
Yes. The iPhone import screen lists M4A, MP3, WAV, and other supported formats, with a 100 MB maximum and at least three seconds of readable audio. Use audio you own or have permission to use.
Can I edit the waveform inside Manai?
No. Manai revises the script and produces new audio versions; it does not cut, move, or mix clips. Do that work in an editor and import the result.
Is a personal voice the same as recording myself?
No. A personal voice is a narration option generated from your sample, available to eligible active paid accounts, one active voice per account. A recording is audio you performed. Choose by whether you want to read every line or have new wording narrated.
